Meteorological station locations
Meteorological station locations
Comprehensive meteorological measurements are taken by the Hilbre Island weather station situated at the outer part of the Dee Estuary.

It is more representative of local coastal conditions than the Bidston site. This weather station has now replaced the Bidston Observatory weather station.

Bidston Observatory measurements
This station has now ceased to take measurements (26th Nov 2004) due to the POL relocation to Liverpool. Once the new owners are established we may attempt to reinstate the weather station to supplement the Hilbre Island weather station.

Gladstone Lock measurements
Currently damaged. This weather station will not be replaced due to problems of access to the location.

Important data notes:
1. The rain gauge was off-line between 18th January and 27th April 2005. Data values were recorded as zero values.
2. There is evidence from the data that the rain gauge has been over reading during the windiest periods. This would suggest that the unit is being shaken to the extent that tips are being registered. We have added extra supports to try and prevent this from happening, however if it continues we may have to move the gauge lower down on the tower.

Met stations
5th February 2010
The anemometer was taken off the tower today. The rain gauge was blocked by debris. New weather station scheduled for Wed 10th February.

Note: The wind sensor has lost its rotor, probably due to a worn bearing. Analysis of data indicates that the problem started on the 18th December 2009.
