Latest operational information
Glider 117, one of the NOC shallow water gliders, was deployed in the Irish Sea on the 2nd April as part of a NOC study into the development and evolution of shelf sea fronts. The project has attracted the interest of DEFRA who are keen to investigate new monitoring strategies for the recently proposed Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) and MPAs. Additional funding has therefore been provided to the project via the Marine Environmental Mapping Programme (MAREMAP), which will provide additional support to the deployment, and permit a mid-deployment calibration cruise.
