Australia's contribution to GODAE is called BLUELINK, a partnership between CSIRO, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The most visible product is an operational global-ocean forecasting system now installed at the BoM. We are exploring interface technologies to enable non-specialist application of the BLUElink ocean forecasts and hindcasts. In particular, we have developed an automated, relocatable ocean and atmosphere model (called ROAM), to enable RAN operatives to implement nested, high-resolution forecasts of local weather and ocean structure. Other regional research based on BLUElink includes the investigation of biological connectedness around the Australian coastline, and improvements in dynamics under tropical cyclones. I will be reporting on the work of a large team.
