To build an operational marine forecast system for China adjacent seas, a nested ocean modeling system is under developing. This presentation aims introducing the modeling system and some preliminary verification results. The Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) is used in a two step nesting way. The coarse model domain covers nearly entire Pacific with a spatial resolution of 0.5 degree. The finer resolution model domain covers the China adjacent seas including the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, part of the Southern China Sea and part of the Western Pacific. The spatial resolution is about 1/8 degree. Simulation results and comparsion with climatology and in situ observations(surface drifter temperature, ARGO, coastal station temperature) and remote sensing observations (altimetry, GHRSST) will be presented.
